12 Tips & Tricks to Win More Games in Guess It!

By AMC Innovation · Published April 6, 2026

After enough rounds of Guess It!, patterns emerge. These twelve tips separate players who guess in 20 seconds from players who run out the clock.

Opening moves (tips 1–4)

  1. Split the category first. "Is it alive?" eliminates half of most decks instantly.
  2. Ask about size early — bigger/smaller than a microwave sorts objects fast.
  3. Don't guess on a hunch before question 3. Wrong guesses burn more time than questions do.
  4. Learn each category's shape. Flags split by continent and color; food splits by sweet/savory. See our category-by-category breakdown.

Mid-round (tips 5–8)

  1. Build a tree, not a list — every question should cut the remaining options roughly in half (the twenty-questions principle).
  2. Track answers out loud in party mode; in 1v1, keep a mental "confirmed" list.
  3. Watch the timer at 30 seconds — switch from narrowing to your best two guesses.
  4. Use the pass wisely — a brutal card early is worth skipping; the same card at full timer isn't.

Long game (tips 9–12)

  1. Play the daily challenge — one focused round a day builds pattern memory fast.
  2. Practice vs. the AI between matches; it punishes lazy questions (here's how it thinks).
  3. Rematch strong opponents — you learn more losing to good players than beating weak ones.
  4. Switch languages if you're multilingual — same cards, fresh difficulty.
